Apprenticeship overview

The AAT Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship provides a solid grounding in accounting, bookkeeping and financial administration. It builds the confidence and capability to manage core finance tasks independently, from processing transactions and maintaining digital records to completing reconciliations and supporting effective financial controls. 

You will develop the practical skills that keep day‑to‑day financial operations running smoothly, while achieving the industry‑recognised AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. 

This professional accreditation also unlocks the full AAT progression route with BPP, so you can advance confidently through Levels 3 and 4 as you work toward full qualification and long‑term career success.

Who is this programme for? 

This entry-level accounting apprenticeship is ideal if you're starting your finance career and want hands‑on experience, a solid foundation in core accounting practice, and a clear progression route.

  • Accounts Administrator 

  • Accounts Assistant 

  • Accounts Payable Clerk 

  • Assistant Bookkeeper 

  • Business Accounts Administrator 

  • Junior Cashier 

  • Cost Accountant Assistant 

Where will the programme take you? 

Alongside your apprenticeship qualification, you'll also gain the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, giving you a respected and recognised foundation that boosts employability, strengthens credibility and signals readiness for real responsibility in a finance function.  

This programme is also the first step in BPP’s full AAT apprenticeship pathway. From here, you can progress to:

Who’s eligible? 

Eligibility is set by individual employers, but typically includes:   

  • A minimum of five GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including English and maths, or  

  • Relevant work experience 

To apply for this programme you must be employed in a relevant role.
