The BSc (Hons) Health and Care prepares you to succeed in diverse health and social care environments by developing a strong understanding of care systems, leadership and ethical practice.

Entry requirements
We take into consideration several factors when assessing your application. The standard entry requirements are:
112 minimum tariff points and a grade 4/C at GCSE in English and Mathematics
Students who do not meet the above criteria may be admitted subject to the process below:
240 credits from a Higher National Diploma (HND), Foundation Degree (FdA/ FdSc) or equivalent international qualification in a relevant subject, or
240 credits from years 1 and 2 of an undergraduate degree (BA/BSc) in a relevant subject at a domestic institution
English language requirements
To study at BPP, it is important that you can communicate and engage in English effectively in an academic setting.
Applicants whose first language is not English and who do not hold an honours degree that was delivered in English will be required to provide certified proof of ability in reading, writing, listening and speaking English to, at least, IELTS level 6.0 (overall) or equivalent, plus a minimum of 6.0 in writing.

Students with an overall IELTs of 6.0 or equivalent will be required to undertake a compulsory in‐sessional English/Academic English course during the first term of their studies.

Course structure
Academic, Professional and Research Skills (30 credits)
Introduces you to university-level study, critical thinking and evidence-based practice. It develops academic writing, research appraisal and reflective skills essential for success across the programme and future professional roles.
Term 1
Social Concepts in Health (30 credits)
Explores how social factors such as poverty, culture, inequality and identity shape health outcomes. You will examine key theories and apply them to understand real-world health disparities and patient experiences.
Term 2
Promoting Health and Wellness (30 credits)
Focuses on health promotion, prevention and wellbeing strategies across populations. You will learn to design and communicate interventions that address health inequalities and improve public health outcomes.
Term 3
Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Health (30 credits)
Introduces innovation within healthcare systems, encouraging you to identify problems and design creative, evidence-based solutions. Emphasises digital health, service improvement and entrepreneurial thinking.
Professionalism and Practice (30 credits)
Focuses on professional identity, ethics, accountability and working within multidisciplinary environments. You will develop the behaviours, values and reflective skills required for safe and effective practice.
Term 1
Leading and Managing Self and Others (30 credits)
Develops leadership and management capabilities within health and care settings. You will explore team dynamics, organisational structures and performance management to support effective service delivery.
Term 2
Life Cycle Development (30 credits)
Examines human development across the lifespan, from infancy to older adulthood. You will analyse physical, psychological and social changes, and apply this understanding to health and care needs.
Term 3
Perspectives on Mental Health, Society and Wellbeing (30 credits)
Explores mental health through social, cultural and systemic lenses. You will examine stigma, inequality and community-based approaches while developing professional and ethical awareness in mental health contexts.
Health and Care Final Project (30 credits)
A capstone module where you'll undertake an independent project focused on a real-world health or care issue. It brings together research, policy analysis and professional skills to produce a substantial piece of work.
Term 1
Contemporary Issues and Transformation in Health and Social Care (30 credits)
Examines current challenges, such as workforce pressures, digital transformation and health inequalities. You will critically analyse and contribute to debates shaping the future of health and care systems.
Term 2
Governance, Regulation and Policy in Modern Health Systems (30 credits)
Explores how healthcare is regulated and governed. You will analyse policy, legal frameworks and accountability mechanisms to understand how safe, effective and equitable services are delivered.
Term 3
Ethical Decision-Making in Health and Social Care (30 credits)
Develops advanced ethical reasoning and decision-making skills. You will critically evaluate complex scenarios, integrating evidence, leadership principles and emerging technologies such as AI.
How will you study
Contact hours
Students will typically receive eight hours of teaching, one hour of academic and assessment support, one hour of English language support, and two hours of office hours weekly, and will need to devote 24 hours weekly to independent learning.
Live teaching sessions
The module introduction will comprise two hours. Four hours per week are required for all standard 30-credit modules (scheduled in two-hour teaching sessions), except for the long and thin modules, which will have two hours per week spread across the three terms. Six to eight hours per week are required for study skills and tutorials .
In addition to your scheduled sessions, you will also be able to attend further support sessions with your academic tutors, particularly during the assignment preparation weeks. You can also access the dedicated personal tutor team for additional support.
You will receive a timetable each term which shows your classes, and you will be expected to prepare for classes via the Hub following the detailed study plan.
Independent study
In addition to attending classes, you will be expected to do significant independent study using the resources provided on the Hub. Typical weekly activities will include the following:

This programme's summative assessments are primarily coursework-based. They are designed to reflect contemporary scenarios and equip you with skills directly applicable to your future career.
