Apprenticeship standard: Data Technician

The Level 3 Management, Data and AI Foundations Apprenticeship develops data-confident leaders who can translate operational information into clear, actionable decisions.

Designed for managers working with data, the programme builds the confidence to use it more effectively – supporting stronger decision making, improved performance and more impactful leadership in modern, data-driven workplaces. You'll gain practical skills to analyse and interpret raw business data, identify trends, improve reporting and communicate insights clearly.

You’ll also learn how to use tools such as Excel, Power BI and AI to streamline processes, improve accuracy and support more informed decisions in your role, while developing problem-solving and leadership skills to influence outcomes and boost team performance.

On completion, you'll achieve a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Award in Managing AI Adoption, CMI Foundation Chartered Manager status and an accredited Leader as Coach qualification – so you're equipped for the next step in your management career.

Build the confidence to work with raw business data, structuring and preparing it for meaningful analysis.

AI-Enhanced Data Quality and Ethics

Explore how AI can support validation, identify inconsistencies and improve data quality, while understanding the ethical and regulatory considerations that underpin data use. 

Months 5-8

Communicating Insights for Better Decisions

Learn how to create impactful visuals, dashboards and narratives that translate complex information into actionable insight.

Understanding Trends to Inform Business Priorities

Develop the skills to identify patterns, trends and anomalies within operational data.

Months 9-11

Streamlining Business Processes with Data and AI

Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, simplify processes and optimise resource use.

Building Sustainable and Responsible Data Practices

Explore best practices in data governance, privacy and responsible usage, ensuring data is handled ethically and effectively.

Months 12-14

Developing as a Future Data-Driven Leader

Strengthen decision making, communication and problem‑solving skills, learning how to use insight to influence outcomes and drive improvement.
