Successfully gaining Higher Rights of Audience (HRA) allows you to represent clients as a solicitor-advocate in the senior civil or criminal courts throughout England and Wales. Prepare to excel in the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) advocacy assessments, covering advocacy skills, legal procedure, and ethical standards.  After completing the Preparation Course, go on to undertake assessments* to gain rights of audience in the Crown Court, High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court, enhancing your ability to represent clients at the highest levels. 

*The assessments are not administered by BPP and must be booked with the assessment provider.

Course structure

Our HRA Preparation Courses are designed to prepare you for either the Civil or Criminal HRA Assessment which lead to the HCAQ.
The preparation course for each assessment is structured into two training modules, plus mock assessments.
Written assessment trainingTwo Days

Build your knowledge of the law, procedure and rules of evidence in a practical setting. Targeted preparation for the written assessment.

Practical assessment trainingOne Day

Hone and enhance your case analysis, case theory, advocacy and presentation skills.  Targeted preparation for all components of the practical assessment: interim applications, examination in chief, cross examination and trial speech skills

Mock assessments

Undertake a written mock assessment within a one-week window (allow 2.5 hours) and prepare for and attend your practical mock assessment and receive feedback (a 2-hour slot will be allocated to you on the practical mock assessment date). Marks and feedback will be provided for both mock assessments.

Developing your understanding of ethics and professional standards is continuous throughout the course. Our experts will ensure you are fully versed in potential ethical situations that may arise and how to deal with them both in the HRA assessments and in practice.
