Changes to Level 7 law apprenticeship funding
Funding rules for Level 7 law apprenticeships are changing from January 2026. Explore our range of funding options, and find the right route for you to continue developing future legal talent.
Funding Changes from January 2026
From 1 January 2026, government funding for Level 7 apprenticeships apply only to learners aged 16 - 21, or those under 25 with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or care-leaver status.
HMRC and the Department for Education have also confirmed National Insurance exemptions for commercially funded apprentices under 25, reducing employment costs for firms supporting early-career talent.
We’re committed to supporting employers in developing high-quality legal professionals. We offer fully funded, part-funded and commercially funded pathways so organisations can continue to invest in long-term talent development.
What This Means at BPP
We will continue to offer the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship for all eligible learners under the new rule, with commercially funded options available for those aged 22 and over. This ensures employers maintain strong talent pipelines at every level.
We’re also enhancing our programme offering with:
Stronger progression pathways
Alternative routes to qualification
Tailored advice to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective route
These improvements reinforce our role as the trusted partner in building resilient, future-ready legal teams.
