A solid understanding of ethical considerations is a must to pass this assessment. This day-long course provides the relevant knowledge and skills, along with a significantly improved pass-rate for those who attend.
In addition, we also offer a two-hour Professional Ethics workshop which compliments the full-day lecture which can also be booked as a standalone training module. This workshop is an opportunity to ask questions directly with a tutor and to clarify any area of the Professional Ethics syllabus prior to the assessment.
Civil procedure rules and their application are intrinsic to practising litigation. This course, with its assessment and practice-focused approach, gives you the foundation you need to be successful.
It includes a two-day Civil Litigation and Evidence lecture that comprises teaching, group work and individual exercises to help you build confidence around the syllabus. The additional two-hour webinar is an opportunity to ask questions directly with a tutor and to clarify any area of the Criminal Litigation and Sentencing syllabus prior to the assessment.
This is a key subject for anyone looking to qualify. Our experienced barrister tutors offer the knowledge you need to focus your studies in these highly examinable areas. Our full-day Criminal Litigation lecture comprises teaching, group work and individual exercises.
These are designed to help you build confidence around the Criminal Litigation and Sentencing syllabus. The additional two-hour webinar is an opportunity to ask questions directly with a tutor and to clarify any area of the Criminal Litigation and Sentencing syllabus prior to the assessment.
This three-day course is compulsory for anyone who is looking to take the Advocacy assessments for the first time. It can also serve as a refresher or additional practice and includes one full-day lecture, one day of practical training, and one day of mock assessments.
Please see information regarding our Advocacy workshops, which may be accessed in addition to the three-day compulsory Advocacy Training course.
Witness Handling workshop
Our specialist workshop will help to strengthen your advocacy approach. This practical two-hour session lets you practise both your examination-in-chief and cross-examination skills with guidance from an experienced tutor.
You and one other delegate will take part in practising the role of prosecution advocate and receive personalised in-depth feedback from your tutor. This will help you prepare for and undertake the Cross-Examination and Examination-in-Chief assessments as the session will reflect the assessments as closely as possible.
Who is this for?
Anyone who would like further practice and feedback in examination-in-chief and cross-examination. This workshop can be booked in addition to the compulsory three-day Advocacy Training course. If you have already undertaken the advocacy training days you may wish to attend the workshop sessions for additional practice, guidance and feedback.
Civil Applications workshop
Our specialist workshop will help to strengthen your advocacy approach. This practical two-hour session lets you practise your application advocacy skills with guidance from an experienced tutor, where you and three other delegates will take part in practising the role of applicant advocate. You will each receive personalised, in-depth feedback from your tutor. This will assist you with preparing for and undertaking the Applications Advocacy assessments. With only four delegates per session, you will have ample opportunity to learn from each other as well as receive personalised feedback and guidance from your tutor.
Who is this for?
Anyone who would like further practice and feedback for the examination in applications advocacy. This workshop can be booked in addition to the compulsory three-day Advocacy Training course. Or if you have already undertaken the advocacy training days, you may wish to attend the workshop sessions for additional practice, guidance and feedback.
Conferencing Skills workshop series
This is a two-part workshop. The first part will teach you best practice for conferences, structure, questioning techniques, preparation (including the production of a conference preparation note), time management and advising in conference.
In the second session, you will have the opportunity to perform a 20-minute conference, receive detailed feedback on your performance and your note, if you chose to submit one, as well as observing other students. There will be a maximum of four students per session for the second session.
Who is it for?
Anyone who is undertaking the conference assessment. Unlike advocacy training, there is currently no compulsory conference skills formative assessment or ‘mock'. This means that the Conference Skills workshop series is particularly beneficial for candidates who are required to undertake the Conference Skills summative assessment.
Opinion Writing/Legal Research workshop series
This workshop is delivered in two parts, the first of which will provide students with instruction and guidance on ‘best practice’ in opinion writing and legal research. In the second workshop this knowledge will be built upon to guide students to develop their skills further. This is an ideal opportunity to hone skills for both assessments and professional practice in a supportive environment. Students will have the opportunity to see both good and bad exemplar legal research notes.
Who is it for?
Anyone who wants to hone their opinion writing/legal research skills for the purposes of the BTT assessment, or just to brush up their existing practice.
Drafting workshop series
The first workshop of this two-part series will provide students with instruction and guidance on ‘best practice’ in legal drafting. In the second workshop this knowledge will be built upon to guide students to develop their skills further. This is an ideal opportunity to hone skills for both assessments and for professional practice in a supportive environment.
Who is it for?
Anyone who wishes to enhance their drafting skills for the Drafting assessment or otherwise.
Drafting Mock Assessment and Feedback
Submit a Drafting ‘mock’ assessment and receive personalised and written feedback four days later.
Who is it for?
Anyone sitting the Drafting assessment. With no formal mock exam as part of the programme, this is the best opportunity to practise and see whether you make the grade before the assessment.
