The Bar Training Resit Programme gives you a new path to qualifying. This programme allows you to sit any outstanding assessments you need to complete, with optional refresher training led by our experienced barrister tutors. The BTR is assessment only, meaning that you will not receive any academic award such as a diploma or LLM for completing it.

Assessment (in-person)
One assessment across two papers; paper one is two hours closed book and paper two is two and a half hours open book, with seven rolling case scenarios of five questions and five standalone questions

Two days of training and a two-hour revision webinar
Assessment (online)
20-minute oral assessment via Microsoft Teams, consisting of a conference in a criminal case with a client played by an actor, with a mandatory written component comprising a conference preparation note

Two-part workshop, compromising small group workshops and a performance of a mock assessment with feedback from your trainer

Three-hour closed book, supervised assessment consisting of multiple-choice or single best answer questions

Three-hour supervised assessment, where you are required to draft a statement of case. One week prior to the assessment, you will be supplied with a briefing sheet outline the broad areas of law which will form the basis of the assessment

You’ll receive a set of case papers and are required to: 1) undertake legal research and write a 4000-word opinion; and 2) produce a 2000-word legal research trail
