BPP Pro Bono Centre

BPP’s Pro Bono Centre facilitates the provision by law students of a wide range of legal services without charge through a varied and interesting program of pro bono projects.

Our diverse range of projects provide all law students with the opportunity to put their legal knowledge and skills into practice in a way that benefits members of the community who may not otherwise have access to legal services. Taking part in pro bono provides the perfect opportunity for students to demonstrate their legal professionalism and build up experiences that will prepare them for a career in law.

Many students never forget these experiences and deliver pro bono advice throughout their careers.

Award-winning service

The centre’s projects have won several awards including:

  • The Lawyer Award for Pro Bono Activity of the year 2005
  • Finalist status for the same award in 2004, 2007 and 2009
  • High Commendations in the LawWorks & Attorney General’s Student Awards 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011
  • Two High Commendations in the Attorney General’s Student Awards 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011
  • Winner of the Best Contribution by a Team of Students Award at the LawWorks & Attorney General Student Awards 2011
  • Winner of the LawWorks Award for Pro Bono Partnership 2009

Pro Bono Centre's Philosophy and Goals

Our Philsophy

We recognise the inequality and injustice inherent in our society's unmet legal needs. We strive to enhance access to justice by promoting and facilitating the provision of pro bono legal services by law students and lawyers.
Our Goals
We provide the opportunity for every BPP law student to take part in pro bono work that matches their interests and level of commitment. Our goals include:
  • providing pro bono opportunities that match student interest and level of commitment;
  • helping local, natonal and international communities;
  • expressing our student and staff commitment to the pro bono ethic and
  • contributing to the profile of pro bono work undertaken by the legal community.
