Degree Apprenticeship: Financial Services

A Financial Services Professional Apprenticeship enables individuals to become highly competent professionals for the industry. The Financial Services industry encompasses a broad range of businesses that manage, or consult around managing money. These include retail and corporate banking, investment management, investment consulting, investment banking, mortgages, and life and pensions.

This Degree Apprenticeship is designed to bring together a range of financial services disciplines, with a balance of technical competence and intellectual and practical skills that will support apprentices both as learners and as future financial services professionals.

Modes of study

Our guided teaching is delivered through a mix of live webinars delivered by a BPP University tutor, 24/7 access to recorded lectures and online lecture notes. Including online teaching sessions with face-to-face inductions and masterclasses.

Students take part in live discussion with fellow learners during live webinars and via course forums.

Assessment

Include: work-based projects, coursework, written reports and exams, E-Portfolio and multiple choice tests.

Programme Details

Studying for the Financial Services Degree Apprenticeship gives you the key skills and competencies employers are looking for and the opportunity to apply them in work-based situations. The breadth of subjects within the programme allows you to explore a range of disciplines including corporate finance, investment management, and financial risk. Through elective modules, you will also have the opportunity to specialise in areas aligned to your career aspirations or the needs of your employer.

Job roles

To join a Degree Apprenticeship you must be in full-time employment with an employer who is participating in the scheme. Your role must be relevant to the programme and may include: corporate account manager, junior advisor, investment consulting analyst, junior dealer, trainee investment manager, or a credit analyst, to name a few.

Designed with employers in mind

This Degree Apprenticeship programme has been designed to meet the Apprenticeship Standard, developed by a group of employers known as ‘Trailblazers’. These standards have been developed so you gain a highly relevant qualification, focusing on the attainment of business knowledge, skills and behaviours required by employers.

The Trailblazers involved in the design of this programme include: HSBC, Barclays, JP Morgan, Mercer, Pimco, Lloyds, B&CE, Santander, Nationwide, RBS, Willis Towers Watson, Divento Financials, Charles-Stanley, Yorkshire Building Society, Columbia Threadneedle Investments, Equinti.

Study routes

During your programme you will study knowledge-based topics. From the beginning you will cover subjects essential for a successful career in financial services, including professional ethics, commercial and investment banking, and business finance.

During the second and third stage of your programme, you will have the opportunity to specialise your degree through a series of elective modules. With input from your employer, you can choose to tailor your degree, to focus on either Commercial / Business Banking, Investment Banking, or Investment Management.

Study anytime and anywhere

Our guided teaching is delivered through a mix of live webinars delivered by a BPP University tutor, recorded lectures and online learning material. When you join your apprenticeship programme, you will gain access to BPP University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), where you will have 24/7 access to recorded lectures and the study resources you need, allowing you to study anytime and anywhere.

You will be placed into a cohort of students who you will study with using our VLE. You will have the opportunity to network with your peers through online forums and live discussions. In addition, each cohort will receive student support, who will give you guidance through your programme.

Subject to agreement with your employer, supplement face-to-face induction sessions and masterclasses may be added to your programme.

During your studies you will learn from a mix of industry professionals and academics who will deliver a highly relevant programme through discussions, case studies and activities. During each lesson you will learn a range of key principles that you can apply and develop further during your work.

Entry requirements

Students who wish to join the Financial Services Degree Apprenticeship must be in full-time employment in a relevant and suitable role.

  • 120+ UCAS points and grade C GCSE in English and Mathematics; OR
  • Completion of a level-3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline; OR
  • Have a recognised and equivalent qualification (examinations and experience will be considered)

Standard university entry criteria apply. However employers may set their own criteria equivalent to or higher than the university.

English language requirements

IELTS score of 6.0 (overall) or equivalent plus a minimum of 6.0 in writing.

Students with an overall IELTs of 6.0 or equivalent shall be required to undertake a compulsory in-sessional English/Academic English course during the first term of their studies

Teaching beyond coursework

At BPP University, we have a dedicated Careers service in place to give students an 'edge'. This comes in the form of professional support and guidance given in a range of ways. This ensures you have a rounded and professional approach to finding and securing a graduate role when you finish your studies.

The Careers Service provides one-to-one consultations, mock interviews and career events. You can even receive advice on preparing your all-important CV, filling in application forms and essential interview techniques.

Just as importantly, you are offered 'Career-Ready Skills' workshops throughout the year. Developed with employers, the skills taught have been identified as those critical to the success of organisations and cover everything from negotiation and presentation techniques to time management.

It is never too early to start learning all the essential skills you will need to get a job, which is why you can begin taking advantage of our careers services as soon as you have accepted a place at BPP University. You then continue to have access to this Careers Service for 12 months after you leave. 

 

Start dates and locations

All our apprenticeships programmes are delivered through our VLE meaning you can study from wherever is most convenient to you and your employer. If your programme is supplanted by face-to-face sessions, these may be run in one of our business school locations or at your employers’ premises depending upon your employer's preference.

Fees

Government funding policy for the Degree Apprenticeships means that, as the employer, you are responsible for paying for the formal training required in an apprenticeship programme. The full cost of the Degree Apprenticeship is £27,000.

Since the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy, employers with pay bills of over £3 million are required to pay a levy which can only be reclaimed to fund Apprenticeship training.
