Degree Apprenticeship: Digital and Technology Solutions

A digital and technology solutions professional provides technology enabled solutions to internal and/or external customers, in a range of areas including software, business and systems analysis, cyber security, data analysis and network infrastructure. They implement technology solutions that enable businesses to develop new products and services and to increase an organisations productivity using digital technologies.

This Degree Apprenticeship is designed to bring together a range of digital and technology disciplines, with a balance of technical competence and intellectual and practical skills that will support apprentices both as learners and as future digital and technology solutions professionals.

Our guided teaching is delivered through a mix of live webinars delivered by a BPP University tutor, recorded lectures and online learning material.

There is also an option to supplement online teaching sessions with face to face inductions and masterclasses*

Degree Apprenticeships

Degree Apprenticeships are a new government-led initiative that will introduce UK higher education into the apprenticeship market for the first time. They are practical, vocational degree programmes which allow people to combine academic study with practical work experience and wider employability skills.

Each Degree Apprenticeship has been designed to meet the Apprenticeship Standard, developed by a group of employers known as ‘Trailblazers’. They are also eligible to receive government funding to cover up to two thirds of the cost. BPP University is one of the first higher education providers to offer the new Degree Apprenticeship programmes to organisations and learners.

Role Suitability

The Degree Apprenticeship, Digital and Technology Solutions, is suitable for new or existing employees. Specific job roles may include: Software Engineer, IT Consultant, Business Analyst, Cyber Security Analyst, Data Analyst or Network Engineer.

Knowledge and Skills

This programme is designed to develop skills including; systems development, project management, technology appraisal and application, identify organisational information requirements, security risk assessment, building and leading teams, clear communication, developing skills and motivating others, understanding business process and exploiting technology solutions for competitive advantage

Quality Assurance

All BPP University programmes go through an extensive validation process prior to launch to ensure that they meet the requirements of the UK higher education sector. As part of the process they are externally reviewed and benchmarked against other institutions.

Working towards a professional qualification

This programme has been designed to give apprentices the skills needed to work towards a range of professional qualifications. Our Project Management Fundamentals module prepares apprentices for the PRINCE2 Foundation exam.

During the second and third terms of the programme apprentices can also choose elective modules which will help to prepare them for prestigious professional qualifications including:

  • Business Analysis Foundation Certificate (British Computer Society)
  • ITIL foundation level qualification
  • Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA )
  • ISTQB® Foundation Level (CTFL)

Please note the cost of these Professional Qualifications are not covered via the funding cap as they are not mandated by the Standard.

During their programme apprentices, will follow a broad curriculum that will provide them with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed as a digital and technology solutions professional. During stages 2 and 3 of the programme, they will have the opportunity to specialise their degree through a series of elective modules. With input from their employer, they can choose to study one of six pre-set paths that align to a specific role.

Entry Requirements

Students who wish to join the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship must be in full-time employment in a relevant and suitable role.

From September 2016

  • 260+ UCAS points and grade C GCSE English and Mathematics or:
  • Completion of a level-3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline or;
  • Have a recognised and equivalent qualification (examinations and experience will be considered)

From September 2017

  • 120+ UCAS points and grade C GCSE in English and Mathematics or:
  • Completion of a level-3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline or;
  • Have a recognised and equivalent qualification (examinations and experience will be considered)

Standard university entry criteria apply. However employers may set their own criteria equivalent to or higher than the university.

English language requirements

IELTS score of 6.0 (overall) or equivalent plus a minimum of 6.0 in writing.

Students with an overall IELTs of 6.0 or equivalent shall be required to undertake a compulsory in-sessional English/Academic English course during the first term of their studies



  • Provide the apprentice full-time paid employment and an employment contract
  • Support the apprentice to gain new skills
  • Provide the apprentice with one day per week to study
  • Enter into a contract with BPP University


  • Work in a relevant role for 30+ hours a week
  • Must not hold a Level 6 qualification or a degree to be eligible for government funding

Teaching beyond coursework

At BPP University, we have a dedicated Careers service in place to give students an 'edge'. This comes in the form of professional support and guidance given in a range of ways. This ensures you have a rounded and professional approach to finding and securing a graduate role when you finish your studies.

The Careers Service provides one-to-one consultations, mock interviews and career events. You can even receive advice on preparing your all-important CV, filling in application forms and essential interview techniques.

Just as importantly, you are offered 'Career Ready Skills' workshops throughout the year. Developed with employers, the skills taught have been identified as those critical to the success of organisations and cover everything from negotiation and presentation techniques to time management./p>

It's never too early to start learning all the essential skills you'll need to get a job, which is why you can begin taking advantage of our careers services as soon as you have accepted a place at BPP University. You then continue to have access to this Careers Service for 12 months after you leave.

Your student experience

BPP University Students' Association has thousands of members with students across all ten BPP University sites and studying online.

Every student of BPP University automatically becomes a member of the Students' Association when they start their programme.

The Association aims to put you, the student, at the heart of everything BPP University does, giving you:

All our apprenticeships programmes are delivered through our VLE meaning students can study from wherever is most convenient to you. If you choose to supplement the apprenticeship programme with face to face sessions*, these may be run in one of our business school locations or at your premises depending upon your preference.

Government funding policy for the Degree Apprenticeships means that, as the employer, you are responsible for paying for the formal training required in an apprenticeship programme. The full cost of the Degree Apprenticeship is £27,000.

Since the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy, employers with pay bills of over £3 million are required to pay a levy which can only be reclaimed to fund Apprenticeship training.
