Your certificate

The Pathway to Higher Education Certificate in Healthcare is all about giving you the confidence, knowledge and skills to go on to study an undergraduate degree at BPP University. It will help you improve your key study, presentation and communication skills, together with general scientific principles and awareness of healthcare issues within our society and culture

The programme is studied full-time over one term of approximately three months.

You don't need any previous qualifications to join the programme. All we ask is that you've completed 12 years of schooling or can demonstrate relevant work or life experience and have the motivation and will to succeed!

Developing a solid foundation

The course is full-time over one term and features three modules taught by experienced tutors; including English Language, Study and Communications Skills, General Science, and Society and Culture.

Once you've passed the programme, you'll be able to apply for a healthcare related degree, at BPP University. Please be aware that some degree programmes are governed by strict regulatory requirements so you must ensure that you meet all the entry requirements for the relevant programme.


At BPP University, all our teaching is practically-focused and geared to maximising your potential. So we give you plenty of face-to-face time with your tutor (16 hours a week) mainly through small group workshops. You'll also have extensive support and feedback to make sure you fully understand each module.

Classes take place daily. Outside the classroom you'll be expected to do additional self-study, analysing and applying new skills. To help you get the best learning experience, we also provide access to the BPP University Virtual Learning Environment, our student intranet, which features a variety of resources and revision aids, including interactive modules, podcasts, videos and multiple-choice tests.

Extra help for those who need it

If you ever have questions after classes, or if you're finding a subject difficult, support is available from your subject tutors, your allocated personal tutor and student support.

For overseas students or for those whose first language may not be English, additional assistance is provided through international student advisers who will help you to adapt to life, learning and the requirements of studying in the UK including expert help with social and pastoral matters.


Each module is assessed by a variety of methods, including coursework, seen and unseen exams, and group presentations.


The Pathway to Higher Education Certificate in Healthcare is made up of three modules totalling 60 credits.

The modules are delivered in one term for full-time students. In each week, you'll be expected to attend 16 hours of face-to-face classes, and carry out additional work.

  • English Language, Study and Communication skills – 20 credits
  • General Science – 20 credits
  • Society and Culture – 20 credits

Educational background

You must be 18 years or over on commencement of the programme and have completed a minimum of 12 years of schooling with evidence of good grades.

Teaching beyond coursework

At BPP University, we have a dedicated Careers Service in place to give students an 'edge'. This comes in the form of professional support and guidance given in a range of ways. Which together ensure you have a rounded and professional approach to finding and securing a graduate role when you finish your studies.

The Careers Service provides one-to-one consultations, mock interviews and career events. You can even receive advice on preparing your all-important CV, filling in application forms and essential interview techniques.

Just as importantly, you are also offered 'Career Ready Skills' workshops throughout the year. Developed with employers, these have been identified as the skills critical to the success of organisations and cover areas as diverse as negotiation and presentation techniques to time management.

It's never too early to start learning all the essential skills you'll need to get a job, which is why you can begin taking advantage of our careers services as soon as you have accepted a place at BPP University. And continue to access the Careers Service for 12 months after you leave.

Your student experience

To help you make the most of your time at university, there is a Students' Association which offers a number of exciting opportunities to socialise, develop your skills and enhance your CV. You can look forward to lots of student-led events all year round wherever you choose to study. What's more, thanks to the wide range of student clubs and societies on offer, catering for all interests and backgrounds, there's something for everyone.

Every student of BPP University automatically becomes a member of the Students' Association when they start their programme. The Association aims to put you, the student, at the heart of everything BPP University does, giving you:

Paying for your programme

The fees for the Pathway to Higher Education Certificate in Healthcare programme are £500.

This payment will be credited against your first year's fees if you progress to a relevant BPP undergraduate degree.
