Our BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance degree is designed to help you develop the desirable skills and knowledge required for a successful career in the financial sector. Recognised by the Chartered Banker Institute, our BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance programme includes a range of compulsory modules that enable you to apply for Associate Charted Banker status upon successful completion of the programme. This programme also provides you with the teaching required to undertake external, professionally recognised exams leading to qualifications, such as the CISI IAD,CISI Diploma in Corporate Finance and Investment Management Certificate and Chartered Financial Analyst – CFA® Level I.

Work towards a recognised financial qualification

This programme has been designed to make you an attractive prospect and career-ready for the financial sector. You will be offered a range of elective choices so you can pursue areas of interest and align your study to a career in investment advice, retail or commercial banking or corporate finance. Depending upon your chosen pathway you will also have the opportunity to study towards a range of professional qualifications with CFA and CISI and apply for gain Associate Chartered Banker status with the Chartered Banker Insitute.

Study options

BPP University’s BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance degree can be completed in two or three years full-time. You can choose to study for two terms per year over three years or you can accelerate your journey by studying three terms per year, completing your degree in two years.

This programme also features two start dates in September and January so you can choose when you want to begin your studies.

Please note - If at any point during your programme you switch from full-time/part-time to mixed-mode or online study, you may no longer be eligible for government funding. Also, if you change from a 2-year degree to a 3-year degree (or vice versa) or change the speed of your study, you will be required to notify the Student Loans Company, as changing modes or the speed at which you complete your studies may have fee or student funding implications.

Associate Chartered Banker status with the Chartered Banker Institute

The Chartered Banker Institute is the largest professional membership body for professional bankers with over 29,000 members. Recognised by the Chartered Banker Institute, our BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance programme includes a range of modules that enable you to apply for Associate Chartered Banker status upon successful completion of the programme. During the programme you may also apply for student membership of the Chartered Banker Institute so you can benefit from a wide range of resources.

Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA)

The Chartered Financial Analyst Institute is the largest association of investment professionals in the world. During the programmes you will have the opportunity to choose from a range of elective modules that enable you to sit external exams with CFA.

In term three you can choose to study the Investment Management (Securities) module. Upon completion you will be prepared to sit external CFA examinations leading to the Investment Management Certificate (Securities Unit). This certificate is valued by many financial employers - for many of whom require graduate recruits to gain the certificate.

In term 6 of the programme you can choose to study The Financial Analyst which will prepare you to sit the CFA external examination to gain the CFA Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 qualification.

Charted Institute of Securities and Investments (CISI)

The CISI is the professional body of choice for professionals in the securities and investment industry. The CISI Diploma in Corporate Finance is one of the leading professional qualifications in finance. During the programme you will have the opportunity to complete elective modules that will prepare you to sit external exams with CISI.

If you choose to study the following electives you will be prepared to sit external examinations leading to the completion of three of the units required to gain the CISI Investment Advice Diploma (IAD):

  • Investment, Risk & Taxation
  • UK Regulation & Professional Integrity
  • Securities

If you choose to study the following electives you will also be prepared to sit external examinations leading to CISI Diploma in Corporate Finance:

  • Corporate Finance Techniques & Theory
  • Corporate Finance Strategy & Advice

BPP Professional Education can provide additional training to prepare you for the full CISI Diploma examinations. This is not part of the BPP University awarded BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance.

Retail Distribution Review (RDR)

RDR requirements can be met by completing the IAD (awarded by the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment) or completing the IMC (awarded by the CFA Society UK) and CFA® Level I (also awarded by the CFA Society UK). This is not part of the BPP University awarded BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance.

The BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance programme combines academic rigour with a practical focus. The tutors are a team of experienced business practitioners, ideally positioned to put banking and finance in a practical context. This ensures that what we teach you will always be relevant to your future career.

International Students

If your first language is not English you will need an IELTS level 6.0 (overall) or equivalent, plus a minimum of 6.0 in writing in addition to the above entry requirements.

If you have the minimum overall IELTS of 6.0 or equivalent, you will be required to attend In-sessional Study Skills Support classes, alongside the programme during the first term of studies, at no additional cost.

Teaching beyond coursework

At BPP University, we have a dedicated Careers service in place to give students an ‘edge’. This comes in the form of professional support and guidance given in a range of ways. This ensures you have a rounded and professional approach to finding and securing a graduate role when you finish your studies.

The Careers Service provides one-to-one consultations, mock interviews and career events. You can even receive advice on preparing your all-important CV, filling in application forms and essential interview techniques.

Just as importantly, you are offered ‘Career Ready Skills’ workshops throughout the year. Developed with employers, the skills taught have been identified as those critical to the success of organisations and cover everything from negotiation and presentation techniques to time management./p>

It’s never too early to start learning all the essential skills you’ll need to get a job, which is why you can begin taking advantage of our careers services as soon as you have accepted a place at BPP University. You then continue to have access to this Careers Service for 12 months after you leave.

Your student experience

BPP University Students' Association has thousands of members with students across all ten BPP University sites and studying online.

Every student of BPP University automatically becomes a member of the Students' Association when they start their programme.

The Association aims to put you, the student, at the heart of everything BPP University does, giving you:

  • UK or EU students, two-year degree: £9,000 a year
  • International students, three-year degree: £9,500 a year

If you are self-funding, your first instalment will be due two weeks before the programme commences. If you are funding your fees through the Student Loans Company, please email a copy of your SLC confirmation letter to your Service Representative.

Additional charges

In addition to your programme fees, there may be additional charges associated with your studies, which include:

Resit fees for assessments £75
Resit fees to repeat a 15 credit module £400
Resit fees to repeat a 20 credit module £530
Resit fees to repeat a 30 credit module £800

Undergraduate Loans

UK students applying for our Undergraduate courses can apply for Tuition Fee Loans and Maintenance Loans to help cover the cost of tuition fees and living costs whilst studying (subject to eligibility). Tuition Fee Loans are also available for EU students.

You can apply for a tuition fee loan up to a maximum of £6,000 (full-time) or £4,500 (part-time) per academic year. For students from Northern Ireland, the maximum tuition fee loan available is £3805 per academic year.

Students who intend to study our 2 year full-time accelerated degrees should note that BPP University's fee per year is £9000, which is above the maximum loan of £6000 per year available. Students would therefore need to self-fund the difference of £3000 each year.
