Our International Foundation Certificate in Legal Studies is designed specifically for International students and is the ideal preparation if you're thinking of going on to an undergraduate degree in law. It offers you a thorough grounding, and builds your confidence in the skills and subjects that underpin any UK degree course.
Using a combination of student feedback and input from experienced International student tutors we've created modules covering a range of essential subjects. These include English language and communication and study skills plus core academic degree introductory subjects.

Your certificate
The International Foundation Certificate in Legal Studies is a full-time course, run over two terms.
We want you to have as much tutor time as possible to make your learning easier; we achieve this through small group seminars and workshops throughout the course. What's more, you'll also receive additional support through International student advisers. With their expertise and skills you'll be able to adapt your learning style to the requirements of studying for a UK degree.
Moving from another country to the UK can be daunting. Our Legal Studies course makes the transition easier for you by encouraging social and cultural integration in the UK through a range of activities. You'll also have a personal tutor and a fellow student partner who you can study with throughout the programme.
How the course is taught
The International Foundation Certificate in Legal Studies provides 16 hours of face-to-face tutor contact time per week to make learning more effective. You'll take part in fully interactive sessions, often in groups, to maximise understanding, testing and peer support.
The seminars give you a chance to discuss principles and techniques appropriate to the learning. These are complemented by workshops focused on applying specific subject skills.
Regular tutorials and progress reviews include group activities and the chance to have personal discussions with your programme tutor. The tutorials let you monitor your academic progress and to get help with any problems.
As well as attending classes each day you're expected to study on your own. This gives you the chance to reflect on what you have learnt, and to apply your newly acquired skills. To help, you'll have access to Blackboard, the BPP university portal, where you'll find all study material available 24/7.
How the course is assessed
We use different methods of assessment, depending on the module. These include coursework, seen and unseen assessments exams, and group presentations.
Modules

- Explore the drivers and influences on societies and cultures
- Evaluate why society is structured as it is
- Explore how and why societies change
- Enable you to develop your sociological imagination and see the world beyond the limitations of your own experiences.
This module will:
- Give you an overview of what constitutes a business, what are the component parts and what keeps a business running
- Show you the purpose of organisations, their nature and intent, and responsibilities
- Provide you with an insight into the key factors which generate competitive advantage within organisations
- Provide you with a broad knowledge and comprehension of basic principles, concepts and techniques of business
- Review resource issues and economic systems that affect these organisations
- Discuss the requirement to satisfy the needs of consumers and markets
- Develop your knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts, theories and context that underpin mathematical and statistical concepts
- Establish your appreciation of introductory issues arising in quantitative research
- Develop your technical abilities to record and report data and measurements
- Broaden your understanding of the role of quantitative measurement in decision making
- Develop your communication and reporting skills to present information to different users of statistical information
- Introduce you to the study of law
- Familiarise you with the sources of law
- Expose you to a range of academic and practitioner materials used in the study of law
- Familiarise you with the English legal system
- Expose you to the key themes underpinning the foundations of legal knowledge
- Introduce you to some basic law so that you can practice problem solving skills

BPP Students' Association
Founded in 2011 after a year of consultation with and design by students, our new Students' Association is home to 5,500 students across all ten BPP sites.
Every student of the University College automatically becomes a member of the Students' Association on joining the institution.
The Association aims to put you, the student, at the heart of everything BPP does, giving you:
- an independent voice on student matters
- information, support and guidance about your academic and personal life
- academic, cultural, social and professional enrichment through the development of clubs, societies, events and initiatives
- awareness and enhancement of your employability.

Paying for your course
This programme is open to non-EU international students for a fee of £7,500 a year.
