Certificate in Healthcare

The BPP Certificate in Healthcare is primarily for people currently working in a healthcare context, such as a nursing home, but who have no formal qualifications. This is also an extremely attractive programme for people with no healthcare experience – as it will enhance your career prospects with a mix of practical and academic learning.

Once you have completed the Certificate you could also consider other BPP programmes such as Chiropractic degrees, with exemptions offered from the first year of the undergraduate programme.

Your certificate

When you study for the Certificate in Healthcare with BPP, you will develop core knowledge about the human body including basic anatomy and physiology, and the musculoskeletal system.

You will also have the opportunity to study other aspects of healthcare, including degenerative disorders such as dementia, for example. Patient-centred care is at the heart of this programme, and there is a focus on concepts of human dignity and equal treatment.

Putting theory into practice

A further integral part of the Certificate is the application of theory in practice. A large part of your time will be spent in work-based learning. You must show the ability to apply – in a work-based environment – the knowledge and skills that you acquire in the classroom.

Employment prospects

When you successfully complete the Certificate in Healthcare Assistance you will be better placed to gain employment in a non-regulated healthcare practice or progress within your current job.

It will also enable you to continue your studies in healthcare, by looking at other BPP programmes including Chiropractic. You will have qualified for significant exemptions from this programme.

Modules

This is a Level Four Certificate, made up of 120 credits. The Certificate in Healthcare also acts as a bridging programme to the BPP School of Health Chiropractic degree. 

The programme has both theory and practice elements.

Method of assessment

You will be assessed using computer based exams (multiple choice questions), coursework and paper based exams. The practice element of the programme is assessed through a portfolio of work developed during your practice placement period.

As a student of BPP Health School, not only will you have access to BPP activities and societies but you will also benefit from student-status at McTimoney College of Chiropractic and Warwickshire College.

McTimoney student union

The McTimoney student union is here to support you throughout your course. Its main objective is to represent students to the College and to act as a point of contact between the College and the student body.

Each year group will be represented by an elected member. Elections take place in January and those elected serve for a period of one full calendar year. The Union meets at least four times annually and there is an AGM in March of each year.

Union members will also represent McTimoney at the annual Conference of the World Congress of Chiropractic Students (WCCS).

Study locations

You can study for The Certificate in Healthcare Assistance from September 2012 in London and Abingdon. It is intended primarily to be taken as a one year full-time course, although there is also the option of following the course part-time over two years.
