Disclosing your disability
It is important to inform BPP of any learning difficulty or disability you are aware of and it helps if you disclose your disability as soon as you apply.
Disclosing your disability as an applicant
On every application form to study at BPP University College you'll find a box that allows you to tell us about your disability. Once you complete it and your application is processed you will be contacted by our Learning Support Team. They will offer you advice about what reasonable changes we could make to your programme to accommodate you.
We find that some students are anxious about disclosing a disability on their application form as they think it may be used when we decide whether or not to offer you a place. This is a common misconception and is simply not true. Our Admissions team view every application solely on its merits and will not take into account disclosed disabilities.
Disclosing a disability once you have enrolled
If you are visiting this page upon accepting a place or have started your course already, it is not too late to arrange support. Please contact LearningSupport@bpp.com in order to find out who best to contact regarding your circumstances.
What can I do before disclosing?
The best thing is to try and gather medical evidence if you do not already have something to hand. We are not medically qualified to make judgements about how best we can accommodate you, particularly if it is an unseen disability such as Dyslexia or Rheumatoid arthritis.
Types of medical evidence
The evidence and what is deemed acceptable depends on the type of impairment you are disclosing at the time.
If it is an injury you have recently suffered, the evidence may need to be contemporary however if it is an ongoing medical condition then a diagnosis you have received previously may suffice. Our job is to make sure there is a fair chance for all students who attend BPP.
Extra time for exams is not to ensure you pass, but to ensure an impairment does not affect your ability to complete the assessment. Allowances cannot be made for students with disabilities unless they can prove reasonable adjustments should put into place.
Confidentiality
All information disclosed to BPP or discussed with a member of the Learning Support team will be dealt with in the strictest confidence. It will only be shared with staff at BPP who are involved in your programme of study on a “needs to know” basis. You will be invited to complete a Disclosure Form so you can restrict who the information is shared with if you wish. Information is usually handled via your student reference number to retain anonymity.
We do not share your information with any third party such as employers. You will be advised on the best course of action if you are concerned about making onward applications after your time with BPP.
