Careers workshops

We run regular careers workshops throughout the year to help you develop the competencies needed to start or advance your career in business. The workshops are included in your programme fee and over a range of topics such as:

  • Presenting a positive image
  • Enhancing your communication style
  • Effective business writing
  • Negotiating skills
  • Enhancing commercial awareness
  • Networking skills
  • Personal and professional branding
  • Dressing to impress
  • Building your online presence

Additional sessions include:

  • Psychometric testing practice sessions as well as advice on how to improve your scores
  • Effective CVs, covering letters and application forms
  • Successful interviews (including opportunities to undertake mock interviews)
  • Assessment centres

Legal careers workshops

Before the start of your programme - and during the academic year - regular workshops are run to help you gather all the information you need to assist in your job search. Topics include:

  • Planning your Legal Career: A workshop to help you think about what your career goals are and how you can achieve them. This includes practical advice on how to begin your job search, the application process, and devising an action plan
  • Researching firms and chambers: This workshop gives you help and advice on taking the first steps to securing a training contract or pupillage with a firm or chambers. Researching the appropriate channels will ensure you are fully equipped to make an objective decision when it comes to choosing where to apply
  • How to make the most of a vacation scheme: This workshop will help you ensure that you make the most of attending a vacation scheme - enhancing your chances of securing a training contract at the end of your time
  • Legal CVs and covering letters: This workshop offers specialist advice on writing a legal CV and covering letter. Our advice is based on comments and guidance given by law firms and chambers
  • Application form guidance: Writing a training contract application form can be a daunting process. This workshop gives you some hints and tips on successfully completing an application form in order to obtain an interview
  • Psychometric testing practice sessions: Many law firms use psychometric testing as part of their recruitment process. Our practice sessions will prepare you for what to expect
  • Applying for pupillages: Applying for a pupillage through Pupillage Portal is competitive. Come along to this workshop for hints and tips on completing a successful Pupillage Portal form
  • Interview techniques: This workshop aims to give you some useful interview techniques when going for training contract or pupillage interviews
  • Mock assessment centres: If you are going for an assessment centre at a law firm, come along to one of our mock assessment centres first to give you a taster of what to expect. - individual and group feedback is provided
  • Skills Enhancement Workshops:  Working in the legal profession isn't just about drafting and advocacy, there are a whole host of skills needed to be a good lawyer. In order to enhance these skills, we provide workshops in areas such as Commercial Awareness, Negotiation, Networking, and Presenting and Communicating Effectively
