The Joint Insolvency Examination Board (JIEB) examinations is a set of professional exams for those who want to become a licenced insolvency practitioner.

Recognised both inside and outside insolvency, the JIEB is your opportunity to lay the foundations for a career in one of the UK's most rewarding professions. This is also one of the smallest professional fields with fewer than 2,000 licensed insolvency practitioners currently practising.

In order to qualify for the coveted Insolvency Practitioner's Licence, you must have passed all three Joint Insolvency Examination Board (JIEB) exams.

You can attempt all three papers at one sitting, or split the papers over two years. However, you must pass at least two JIEB papers during the same sitting in order to complete the qualification.

You will also need to satisfy the practical requirements of your Recognised Professional Body (RPB) or the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) or the Department for Enterprise, Trade and Industry (DETI). Requirements can differ, so it's important to look into these before you start your studies.

We have specifically designed our JIEB training programmes for busy professionals who need to fit their studies around a full work schedule. So we have made studying for the qualification as easy as possible.

Our regular online lectures will provide you with the core knowledge you will need for the exam as well as discussing a wide variety of practical and commercial issues facing the insolvency practitioner including the legislative changes due to be implemented in due course.

We provide you with the study materials together with a work programme for each module to help you manage your time and preparations for the exam. The study materials include a comprehensive study text, a question bank as well as passcards. To compliment the online lectures, we have classroom based revision courses which will focus on exam technique and implement the knowledge gained through the online programme. We also will run classroom mocks to allow you to implement and fine tune your exam strategy as you head towards the final stages.

How to apply

To sit JIEB exams, you must either meet the requirements of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry or be authorised by one of the following eight Recognised Professional Bodies (RPBs):

Annual key dates for JIEB Insolvency practitioner training are as follows:

  • November 15 – January 16 – book course places
  • End of Jan 16 – courses begin
  • September 16 – exam registration cut off date
  • November 16 – exams held
  • March 17 – exam results

In 2016 you can enrol for a JIEB exam courses in the following way:

  • The online part of the course – complete flexibility and classes are scheduled to run towards the end of the working day
  • Revision classes and mocks will take place in state of the art venues in London and Manchester where lunches and refreshments will be provided
