Real-world trading experience

The BPP Trading and Technical Analysis course is unlike anything you'll find at an academic institution. That's because of the highly effective mix of professional supervision and real-time trading, underpinned by robust academic theory. What's more, the course is delivered in partnership with Amplify Trading, a leading trading company based in Canary Wharf.

What you'll learn

This specialist trading course prepares you academically, technically and psychologically. You'll be fully prepared to trade on the global markets from day one of your new job.

You will learn:

  • How to use CQG professional financial trading software
  • How to trade various asset classes across various markets
  • How to interpret live charts using a variety of technical analysis tools and underlying indicators
  • How macroeconomic variables affect the financial markets, including recent market vulnerability
  • Contemporary trading strategies for speculation, arbitrage and hedging – focusing on equities, commodities and bonds

How the course is structured

Our Trading and Technical Analysis course is designed to give you a global perspective on trading. Practically-focussed, the topics are geared to real-life trading in international stock, commodity and bond futures.

Each term includes ten weeks of study, one reading week mid-term, two weeks of revision and one week of assessments. There are regular holiday periods around Christmas and in August.

There is a face–to-face lecture or discussion of three hours and a required minimum trading time of an additional three hours per week over the teaching weeks. Trading is supervised during office hours through an online communications platform.

Assessment

You’ll be assessed at the end of the course through a coursework assignment worth 100%.

During the course you’ll also need to prepare a weekly analysis of your trading as well as the markets. We’ll give you all the support you need, including two sessions with a psychologist to help you analyse your performance while you’re trading.

Flexible learning

Our Trading and Technical analysis course is designed for both recent graduates and hard-working professionals.

You can study this flexible programme part-time in the evenings, with additional online trading sessions which are designed fit around your busy schedule.

Face-to-face classes

Face-to-face teaching takes place at BPP Business School right in the heart of the City of London.

  • Classroom sessions – Tuesday 6pm – 9pm
  • Duration – ten weekly sessions over a 14-week term


Online trading

You'll be given supervised online trading via CQG, a professional trading platform where you can trade 24/7 on the major exchanges using various asset classes.

  • Supervised trading sessions – Wednesday 2pm – 5pm
  • Extra trading sessions are available with supervision of up to eight hours per day

Entry requirements

If you would like to gain academic credits for the module, you need to satisfy the admissions requirements for the MSc Finance. Otherwise admission it is open to anyone who has prior work experience.

If English is not your first language, you'll also need an IELTS level 6.5 score (or equivalent). This shows that your English is good enough for you to enrol on the course.
