Course structure
The BPP ICAS qualification consists of three levels: the Test of Competence (TC), Test of Professional Skills (TPS) and Test of Professional Expertise (TPE).
These levels break down as follows:
Test of Competence (TC)
Test of Competence is the first level of ICAS and provides students with basic concepts, knowledge and skills in core areas. The TC course last eight weeks and leads up to your exam in week nine. You will cover the following five subjects during this period:
- Financial Accounting
- Principles of Auditing and Reporting
- Business Management
- Business Law
- Finance
To help you prepare for your exams we provide opportunities to test your knowledge with Progress Tests and Mock exams before sitting the real thing.
- Progress Test One – Financial Accounting is a two hour exam, all other subjects are one hour
- Progress Test Two – two hour exam per subject
- Mock Exam – two hour exam per subject
Your Progress Test Two and Mock Exam will replicate the exact format of your real exam. Each Exam (except FA) will consist of 20 multiple-choice questions and two compulsory questions. The FA Exam will consist of 16 multiple-choice questions and one case study.
Test of Professional Skills (TPS)
Test of Professional Sills (TPS) is the second level of ICAS, which equips students with practical skills in core areas necessary for an entry level professional accountant. The TPS course is a 12 week intensive course leading up to your exams in week 13. During this time, you will cover four subjects:
- Financial Reporting
- Assurance and Business Systems
- Advanced Finance
- Taxation
To help you prepare for the TPS exams we provide four Mock exams:

- Mock Exam Four – two hour and fifteen minute exam– in the format of the real exam
Test of Professional Expertise (TPE)
Test of Professional Expertise (TPE) is the final level of ICAS and is intended to bring together the knowledge from the earlier two levels in order to provide professional advice in business scenarios.
At the TPE Level, TC and TPS are assumed knowledge. The TPE Course consists of two Block Courses of one and a half weeks each, over a period of six months.
During the courses you will cover a range of case studies. TPE is intended to bring together assumed knowledge from TC and TPS in order to provide professional advice to business people in real-life situations.
To help you prepare for the TPE exam we provide three Mock exams:
- Mock Exam One – five and a half hour case study
- Mock Exam Two – five and a half hour case study
