Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Insolvency (CPPI)

The Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Insolvency (CPPI) is your first step towards a successful career in insolvency. The CPPI will give you a solid knowledge of the matters of personal insolvency law and practice – and can act as a stepping-stone towards taking the Joint Insolvency Exam Board (JIEB) exams. This is not to be confused with the CPI, which covers all areas of insolvency.

Once you've passed the exam you'll be entitled to apply for Affiliate membership of the Insolvency Practitioners Association. If you become a member, you will be able to describe yourself as an 'Insolvency Technician'.

CPPI full link course

We recommend the CPPI full link course to all first-time candidates – pass rates have proved that this programme provides students with the best chances of passing the exam first time. The CPPI full link course is made up of seven days of tuition, linked together by directed home study and examinations. 

In addition to the seven days of classroom courses, the CPPI full link course includes a study manual, question bank, passcards, downloadable audio presentation, home study work programme, two link tests and also marking and student study support.

Distance learning

Our distance learning programme can be used in conjunction with our classroom courses, or on a stand-alone self-study basis. Work towards the exam at your own pace – from your home or office – using our targeted study materials and our focused distance learning guidance.

The CPPI distance learning course includes a study manual, question bank, passcards, downloadable audio presentation, home study work programme, two link tests and also marking and student study support.

Study materials

Study materials are not included in the course cost and must be purchased separately when not purchasing a distance learning or full link course. You can purchase them individually online or by completing and returning our booking form.

If you're studying via distance learning or using our study materials, you can still attend individual CPPI tutorial days, which would be charged at our daily rate. Applications for individual tutorial days should be highlighted on your booking form. 

How to apply

No prior experience or previous qualifications are needed to take the CPPI exam. However, if you have little knowledge about insolvency, we recommend taking one of our introductory courses.

Registration for the CPPI exam

In order to sit the CPPI exam, you must have registered as an IPA student by the 31st January. You must also submit an entry form and pay the exam fee by the IPA's closing date, which is usually around 20 March.

The exam fee is not included in the BPP course fees and it is your responsibility to register with the IPA and arrange payment.

You can study for your CPPI face-to-face in either London or Manchester. Each centre offers state-of-the-art facilities and comfortable, high-quality classroom environments. But remember, if you prefer to study from home or overseas, we also offer a distance learning option.
