A solid technical foundation

The CISI Diploma in Investment Operations equips you with a sound technical knowledge of operational support functions in the UK. By completing this qualification you will demonstrate your commitment to your career and your professional development.

To obtain the CISI Diploma in Investment Operations, you must complete three modules.

• Module 1: You begin by taking one of the technical IOC modules – either Global Securities Operations (GSO) or Operational Risk (OR). 
• Module 2: This is followed by either the Advanced GSO or the Advanced OR to achieve the Advanced Certificate in GSO or OR. 
• Module 3: The third module is the Global Operations Management (GOM) Diploma.

Flexible pathway

BPP takes a flexible, student-centric approach to learning. So we provide training and materials for both of the available pathways that lead to a CISI Diploma in Investment Operations.

The two pathways are:

• You sit the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC) first, followed by a CISI Advanced Certificate. 
• You complete the full CISI Diploma in Investment Operations, by undertaking the Global Operations Management Diploma paper.

After the CISI Diploma in Investment Operations

You can also sit two further papers to gain a full CISI Diploma. 

Module 1 - Technical

In order to complete Module 1, you must take either the IOC Global Securities Operations or the IOC Operational Risk qualification.

Global Securities Operations (GSO)

The aim of this module is to ensure that candidates have an introduction to global securities services and administration as far as this relates to the needs of operations and administration staff.

To gain an appreciation of this subject we will need to study the characteristics of securities, examine who are the main industry participants, understand settlement characteristics and have knowledge of other investor services. Finally, it will also be necessary to have a grasp of those aspects of taxation and risk that affect global securities operations.

Operational Risk (OR)

The aim of the module is to ensure that candidates have an understanding of operational risk as it relates to the needs of operations and administration staff.

After a brief introduction to the subject, this technical module will investigate what credit, market and operational risks are. It will look at the causes and effects of operational risk and the operational risk cycle. It will then go on to study support and control functions, integrated risk management as well as achieving common standards and protection.

Module 2 - Advanced Certificates

Operational Risk or Global Securities Operations

The Advanced Certificates build on the level of knowledge in the first stage and are suitable for individuals operating in roles where an understanding of operational risk issues will be of benefit. These roles include both front and back office staff at supervisory and manager level, who already have a working knowledge of operational risk issues that affect their own business environment.

Module 3

Global Operations Management

This CISI Diploma paper provides you with an understanding of operations and settlement procedures, from a management perspective. You will learn how to service effectively the operational and settlement needs of a firm and its clients.

Flexible learning

At BPP, your exam and career success is our priority. So we offer a range of study options, high-quality study materials as well as comprehensive support from our expert tutors.

You can study for parts of this Diploma in the classroom, whilst other elements can be taken at your own pace via distance learning. Above all, we understand that when you are balancing work and study, you need flexibility and support – so we always aim to be as adaptable as possible.

Studying for Module One

You can study for Module One (IOC Operational Risk; IOC Global Securities Operations) in the classroom and by distance learning. We can also arrange tailored courses for company training for this first module.

Studying for Module Two

Classroom and distance learning are not available for Module Two (Advanced Certificates in Operational Risk and Global Securities Operations). You will be assessed for these Advanced Certificates by written exam. We would ask you to contact the CISI directly.

Studying for Module Three

Unit Three: Classroom study is not available for Global Operations Management. However, materials can be purchased directly from BPP Learning Media. This module is assessed by written exam. You will be provided with Practice Questions, Past Exams, Mock Papers and other materials designed to help you achieve first time exam success.

You can study for parts of the CISI Diploma in Investment Operations face-to-face at any one of the following study centres. Each centre offers state-of-the-art facilities and comfortable, high-quality classroom environments.
