Corporate Finance Qualification (CFq)

The Diploma in Corporate Finance is a unique qualification offering a practically grounded, transactions-oriented diploma in corporate finance. The syllabus has been jointly developed by the ICAEW and CISI to cover the depth and scope of knowledge and skills required of today's corproate finance professionals. The Diploma provides an internationally recognised qualification that establishes and maintains high standards of professional skill and care in all corporate finance transacitons.

In resonse to industry consultation, the ICAEW and CISI have recently relaunched this qualification and the first exam sitting will be December 2012. The new qualification is equivalent to a Level 6 qualification on the UK National Qualifications Framework.

BPP is proud to be an ICAEW Partner in Learning for the Corporate Finance Diploma and will be offering distance learning courses and face to face revision courses for the first sitting of the examination. Further information on course dates and prices will be made available before June.

Key information about the new Diploma

CFQ Large Promo

There will be two exams for this new Diploma in Corporate Finance:

Paper 1 - Corporate Finance: Techniques and Theories
Paper 2 - Corporate Finance: Strategy and Advice

The first esxam sittings for both papers will take place in December 2012. Students who have acheived the previous diploma in corporate finance will be eligible to study for Paper 2 and will not have to sit Paper 1.

On successful completion of the two exams, students will be awarded the Diploma in Corporate Finance, which will be jointly awarded by ICAEW and CISI.

Registration for the exam and more information regarding the course dates and prices will be available in June.

Paper 1 - Syllabus

The syllabus is specification grid is as follows

  • Financial Statement Analysis (20%)
  • Valuation (20%)
  • Debt and Equity (20%)
  • Mergers, Acquisitions and Disposals (20%)
  • Regulation, Governance and Ethics (20%)

The exam will be in the form of a written paper containing short for and essay questions.

Paper 2 - Syllabus

  • Corporate Performance and Reconstructions (35%-50%)

The exam will be in the form of a written case-study based paper.

Experience Route

Dates and prices

CISI Certificate in Corporate Finance

As the first stage of the CF qualification, the CISI Certificate in Corporate Finance tests your understanding of basic corporate finance concepts and the regulatory environment.

Course content

  • UK Financial Services and Markets Act
  • FSA's Conduct of Business Rules
  • Equity capital markets
  • The Takeover Code
  • Basic accounting
  • Basic quantitative techniques
  • Introduction to corporate finance

Study time

Around 100 hours.

Assessment

Two one-hour units: Corporate Finance Regulation and Corporate Finance Technical Foundations. Each unit is examined via 50 multiple choice questions.

Course duration

Three days.

Exemptions

Holders of an FSSC appropriate examination (e.g. the ACA qualification) will be granted full credit against this stage and may proceed to the Diploma stage.

Entry requirements

To enter the Diploma level you'll need to have passed the CISI Certificate in Corporate Finance or be an ICAEW qualified accountant.
