BPP University School of Health offers this Postgraduate Certificate in Health Service Leadership to Doctors, Pharmacist, Allied Health Professionals, Nursing and Midwifery Registrants and non-clinical staff who are postgraduate and have responsibility for the leadership and management in a range of health service settings or wish to advance into a leadership role.

This programme will afford individuals the opportunity to learn alongside colleagues from a diverse range of professional settings to gain an in-depth understanding of the key principles, practise of leadership and subjects affecting to-days leaders in health and social care.

Understand the changes taking place within the NHS both nationally and locally with specific reference to the NHS Commissioning Board and its new Regions, Local Area Teams and Clinical Commissioning Groups and how they may influence these. This will enhance the individuals’ knowledge and skills to effectively engage in the role and responsibilities required of an effective team player, leader of a team, and being proactive in service innovation and improvements.

To inform Education Strategy within the organisation this can ultimately influence the transformation of care services, staff and organisational performance and commissioning.

Key Information

This Programme will enable individuals to gain an in-depth understanding of the key principles and practise of leadership. You will complete one 60 credit module.

Flexible study options

Individuals will be required to complete on average 12 hours of study per week if studying on the 52 week (3 semester) plan to meet and achieve the theoretical requirements of the programme and assessment.

However, this can be extended if required to meet individual and or organisation needs for example a 78 week (5 semester) plan will require 8 hours of study per week.

How you’ll be assessed

Formative Assessment

A 1000 word reflective account of their own approach to leadership, acknowledging the strengths and limitations. They should acknowledge recent learning and how this may now be influencing a change in their leadership behaviour.

Summative Assessment

Part 1 – Service Innovation and Improvement Project - Students are required to identify a project to be agreed with their immediate line manager, which has the potential to impact upon service delivery, affect clinical commissioning and or change leadership practice. The project will be presented in Report Style with a word count of 7000 words. (70% of the final grade)

Part 2 - A 30-minute viva with a member of Academic Staff and a Manager from their organisation of employment. This will relate to their Service Innovation and Improvement Project / Report. (30% of the final grade)

A deposit of £250 will need to be paid within 48 hours of accepting your offer, in order to secure your place.
