Your International Marketing Master's degree

Study Programme

You will benefit from attending a minimum of 3.5 study days per week, which is equivalent to 12 hours. You can expect to devote individual time to prepare for study sessions and participate in interactive discussions.

As this is an international programme, you will learn with students from across the globe. Through small seminar groups, presentations and critical reflection, you will have every opportunity to develop an exciting range of professional skills.

The programme is divided into three stages that will develop and challenge your marketing knowledge:

Stage One – This features four core modules that deliver an overview of marketing theory and practice. These include Market Strategy and Innovation, Integrated Marketing Communication and International Marketing Management, Consumer Behaviour and Sales.

Stage Two – You will gain more in-depth knowledge on how to build a competitive strategy for your chosen markets.

Stage Three – The final stage will consolidate your learning into a practical marketing project. This demonstrates your ability to work at a strategic level and prepares you for the challenge as an international marketer.

Professional Development and Practice (PDP) module*

Our Professional Development and Practice module* is designed to enhance your employability by developing your career ready and transferable skills. This module is a feature of the 18-month full-time programme. It gives you the opportunity to complete the course with practical work experience. This work experience can be a paid or unpaid job, short-term internship, employer-led or Professional Body project, consultancy work or volunteering.

Live Business Simulations

The best way of learning something, is by doing it. We apply this logic by using live business simulations for students to demonstrate the theory and concepts they have learnt. This is done within small groups across the programme within a real-world setting. Giving you to opportunity to apply key theoretical concepts and experiences before you enter the world of work.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accredited

Our MSc International Marketing programme is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). The CMI is the leading professional body for managers across Europe. It is also the awarding body for Chartered Manager (CMgr), the highest professional status for management and leadership in the UK.

On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a Level 7 award from the CMI alongside your degree. Subject to eligibility, and a separate application, a Level 8 award in Strategic Management and Leadership may also be available.

Our links with the CMI has additional benefits for students. You will receive Affiliate Membership of the CMI during your studies. This allows access to the CMI’s resources and guidance through the CMI Management Direct portal. You will also have the opportunity to attend regional and national events, enhancing your potential to build a professional network.

International Marketing Management & Sales

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

The primary role of a marketing manager is to create effective marketing campaigns. This module will instil an appreciation of modern marketing and focus on key concepts including market entry strategies, segmentation and targeting, delivering value and globalisation.

Consumer Behaviour

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

Do you know how your customers are going to act? Here you will examine major ideas in the field of consumer behaviour. This draws on ideas from psychology, sociology and economics to critically analyse consumer behaviour. This goes hand-in-hand with analysis on how global and ethical issues can also have an impact on your target audience. The module will also help you understand the concepts of customer loyalty, attitudes and persuasion and the impact of technology on consumer behaviour.

Marketing Strategy and Innovation

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

The key to a successful strategy shows when you develop a competitive edge over your rivals. This module will help you identify the tools and techniques you need to assess internal and external organisational environments. You will discover the origins of innovation and trace how this links to building a sustainable competitive advantage. 

Integrated Marketing Communications

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

Through a targeted communications plan, you will demonstrate how offline and online methods can be successfully integrated. This will help you develop an in-depth understanding on the principles of advertising and persuasive messaging. You will also be equipped to compare the use of traditional and digital media through various methods of measurement and control.

Knowing the Customer - Research and Analytics

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

How do you know who your customers are? This module grasps how to acquire detailed knowledge about your target markets for B2B and B2C, by generating insights through research, analysis and metrics. You will develop a thorough understanding of the practical and ethical challenges of market research, and gain access to research skills invaluable for real-world profiling.

Creating Successful Brands

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

Everybody knows a successful brand – but how do you create one? This module will expose a deeper understanding on how to execute successful branding goals. You will explore the important issues that contribute to planning, implementing and evaluating brand strategies. 

Digital and Social Media Marketing

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

As you are reading this online, you already know how effective digital marketing can be. During this module you will explore the theories, concepts and techniques employed in the online space. You will develop an understanding of how to implement digital marketing strategies with social media, search engine marketing, email and content marketing. This is complemented with the knowledge to evaluate campaigns through KPIs and performance metrics, in order to optimise campaigns for acquisition, conversion and retention.

Marketing Planning and Simulation

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

The purpose of this module is to provide a deeper understanding around the frameworks for planning and implementation. You will draw on all the modules taught in this programme to understand what makes marketing plans relevant and appropriate in different contexts. Upon completion, you will have an in-depth knowledge of what drives marketing planning, monitoring and analysis. This is combined with an understanding of how to adapt marketing plans to suit a specific context.

Marketing Project (12-month programme)

Stage 3 (60 Credits) 

If you choose to study our 12-month programme, you will showcase your marketing expertise in a practical consultancy project. Allowing you to demonstrate your ability to operate at senior management level. As part of the project, you will choose a business or marketing issue to investigate. This issue can also be aligned to meet your career aspirations. You will refine your research skills through the analysis of primary and secondary data, while you develop your ability to present data in a well-structured professional report.

Professional Development and Practice (18-month programme)

Stage 3 (60 Credits) 

Our focus doesn’t just revolve around teaching you. It’s also about getting you employed. The Professional Development and Practice module is designed to enhance your employability by developing career-ready and transferable skills. This module is a feature on all of the 18-month full-time MSc Management programmes. It gives you the opportunity to complete the course with practical work experience. This can be a paid or unpaid job, short-term internship, employer-led or Professional Body project, consultancy work or volunteering.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to study the MSc International Marketing will require

a) a minimum of a 2:2 Honours degree from a UK or recognised international university or another equivalent international qualification; or
b) an acceptable professional qualification equivalent such as the CMI, ILM, CIM, CIMA, at level 6 or above.

Following a review of applications, students may be required to attend a face-to-face interview or take part in a telephone interview. If you do not think you meet the entry requirements, but have other qualifications or work experience, please contact us and we can review your options.

English Language

If your first language is not English you will need an IELTS level 6.5 (overall) or equivalent, plus a minimum of 6.0 in all components - in addition to the above entry requirements.

In cases where one or more of IELTS subcomponents are below 6.5, applicants will be encouraged to attend a Pre-sessional course In Academic English.
