MSc International Marketing

Marketing is increasingly important in the sustainability of any organisation. This programme will help you develop the marketing knowledge you need to manage effectively at a strategic level combined with the skills to thrive in a competitive global market. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the marketing cycle including consumer behaviour and knowing your customer, marketing strategy and building brands using social networks.

With a strong focus on digital media you will learn to put theory into practice studying areas such as social media, mobile marketing, big data and analytics – all designed to enhance your ability to plan, implement and measure integrated marketing strategies.

From tutors with experience gained in blue chip companies, you will use a series of real-world case studies to help build a strong commercial appreciation of global, social and ethical issues and discover how they impact an organisation. Your International Marketing Masters degree

With the extensive use of case studies introduced by tutors with international marketing experience, you will learn to put marketing theories into practice, preparing you to face challenges in the workplace. Study Programme

During your programme you will benefit from attending a minimum of 3.5 days of study per week (minimum of 12 hours each week) and carry out additional, individual study and preparation in order to arrive at study sessions with questions and ideas to participate in interactive debates and discussions.

You will learn with students from across the globe enhancing your understanding of unique international markets. Through small seminar groups, group work, presentations and critical reflection, you will confidently develop your range of professional skills.

The programme is divided into three stages:

Stage One - Four core modules give you an overview of marketing theory and practice, including Consumer Behaviour, Market Strategy and Innovation, Integrated Marketing Communication and International Marketing Management and Sales.

Stage Two – Gain a more in-depth knowledge and understand how to build competitive strategies for your chosen markets.

Stage Three – During the final stage you will consolidate your learning into a practical marketing project. This is an exciting way to showcase your ability to work at a strategic level and strengthen your skills for your future career.

Professional Development and Practice (PDP) module**

Our Professional Development and Practice module* is designed to enhance your employability by developing your career ready and transferable skills. This module is a feature of the 18-month, full-time programme. It gives you the opportunity to complete your programme with practical work experience. This work experience can be a paid or unpaid job, short-term internship, employer-led or Professional Body project, consultancy work or volunteering.

Live Business Simulations

Working in groups and competing with your peers, you will take part in live business simulations. These will help you to apply key theoretical concepts and experiences within a real-world setting.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accredited

The CMI is the leading professional body for managers in the UK and across Europe. It is the awarding body for Chartered Manager (CMgr), the highest professional status that can be achieved in management and leadership in the UK. The MSc International Marketing programme is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute. This means that, on successful completion, you will receive a level-7 award from the CMI alongside your degree. Subject to eligibility, and a separate application, a level-8 award in Strategic Management and Leadership may also be available

During your studies you will also be given Affiliate Membership of CMI, allowing you access to CMI Management Direct: a vast resource of management information and guidance. You will also have the opportunity to attend regional and national events, enhancing your capability to build a professional network.

International Marketing Management & Sales

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

The primary role of marketing management in any organisation is to design and execute effective marketing programmes. During this module you will develop an appreciation of the breadth and depth of modern marketing and focus on key concepts including market entry strategies, delivering value, segmentation and targeting and globalisation.

Consumer Behaviour

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

During this module you will examine major ideas in the field of consumer behaviour Drawing on multidisciplinary ideas from psychology, sociology and economics you will develop the skills to critically analyse consumer behaviour and understand how global and ethical issues can have an impact. You will also develop an understanding of concepts such as customer loyalty, attitudes and persuasion and the impact of technology on consumer behaviour.

Marketing Strategy and Innovation

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

The key to a successful strategy is developing a competitive advantage that differentiates you from your competitors. This module will equip you with the tools and techniques you need to assess internal and external organisational environments. You will discover the origins of innovation and its importance as a source of sustainable competitive advantage whist developing tactical decision-making and strategy planning skills.

Integrated Marketing Communications

Stage 1 (15 Credits) 

Through the development of a marketing communications plan aimed at a specific target audience, you will demonstrate how various offline and online marketing communication methods can be integrated successfully. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the principles of advertising and persuasive messaging and be able to compare the use of traditional and digital media through various methods of measurement and control.

Knowing the Customer - Research and Analytics

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

This module will allow you to appreciate how detailed knowledge about your target markets, B2B and B2C can be created by generating insights through research, analysis and metrics. You will develop a thorough understanding of the practical and ethical challenges of market research and gain access to research skills and learn vocabulary invaluable for real world research.

Creating Successful Brands

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

This module will help you reach a deeper understanding of how to achieve an organisation's branding goals. It will enable you to explore the important issues in planning, implementing, and evaluating brand strategies. It will provide you with the opportunity to study subjects including brand resonance, brand equity measurements and strategic brand management.

Digital and Social Media Marketing

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

During this module you will explore the theories, concepts and techniques employed in digital marketing. You will develop an understanding of how to implement digital marketing strategies utilising tools such as social media, search engine marketing, email marketing and content marketing. You will also learn how to critically evaluate digital campaigns through the use of KPIs and performance metrics in order to optimise campaigns for acquisition, conversion and retention.

Marketing Planning and Simulation

Stage 2 (15 Credits) 

The purpose of this module is to provide you with a deeper understanding of the framework for marketing planning and implementation. You will draw on all the modules taught in this programme to understand what makes marketing plans relevant and appropriate in different contexts. Upon completion you will have an in-depth knowledge of the driver of marketing planning, monitoring and analysis together with an understanding of how to adapt marketing plans to suit a specific context.

Marketing Project (12-month programme)

Stage 3 (60 Credits) 

If you choose to study our 12-month programme you will showcase your marketing expertise in a practical consultancy project, allowing you to demonstrate your ability to operate at senior management level. During the project you will choose a business or marketing issue to investigate which can be aligned to your career aspirations. You will refine your research skills through the analysis and of primary and secondary data and develop your ability to present data in a well-structured professional report.

Professional Development and Practice (18-month programme)

Stage 3 (60 Credits) 

Our Professional Development and Practice module is designed to enhance your employability by developing your career ready and transferable skills. This module is a feature of the 18-month, full-time programme. It gives you the opportunity to complete your programme with practical work experience. This work experience can be a paid or unpaid job, short-term internship, employer-led or Professional Body project, consultancy work or volunteering.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to study the MSc International Marketing will require

a) a minimum of a 2:2 Honours degree from a UK or recognised international university or another equivalent international qualification; or
b) an acceptable professional qualification equivalent such as the CMI, ILM, CIM, CIMA, at level 6 or above.

Following a review of applications, students may be required to attend a face-to-face interview or take part in a telephone interview. If you do not think you meet the entry requirements, but have other qualifications or work experience, please contact us and we can review your options.

English Language

If your first language is not English you will need an IELTS level 6.5 (overall) or equivalent, plus a minimum of 6.0 in all components - in addition to the above entry requirements.

In cases where one or more of IELTS subcomponents are below 6.5, applicants will be encouraged to attend a Pre-sessional course In Academic English.
