Graduate LLB

Our Graduate LLB programme allows you to convert your Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) to an LLB (Hons), by completing extra modules worth 60 credits. If you begin in summer, you can start the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) having studied specialist subjects such as Company Law, Banking and Intellectual Property in-depth. Alternatively, you can complete the programme in your own time, at your own pace.

The Graduate LLB degree is awarded by BPP University.

Programme details

This programme is designed to be studied entirely online. The Summer Timetable takes place at London Waterloo along with optional face-to-face seminars

Start Date

Rolling start date – once you have completed your GDL, you can register and commence study at any point during the year

Length of programme

All necessary credits can be gained in as little as three months, although you have a maximum of six years from the date of commencement of your GDL

Modes of study
  • Online only or online with an option of face-to-face seminars (non-compulsory) in some modules over two weeks in the summer (Summer Timetable)
  • The Summer Timetable (middle of June to end of August) consists of online self-study with two weeks of optional face-to-face seminars in some modules that are held over two weeks: one in July and one in August Assessment
  • Coursework assessment submitted online
  • Oral assessment for Legal Research and Analysis module
  • Three assessment windows per year – April, August and November
  • Only students who have sat all their GDL module assessments at least once are eligible to take a Graduate LLB assessment

The Graduate LLB programme is a flexible, online-based qualification, which you can complete at a time and place that suits you. You may take the modules during the summer straight after you've finished the GDL.

You can choose to study purely online or if you prefer some face-to-face support, we also offer teaching in London during the summer.

This programme is exclusively available to BPP GDL students and alumni. You have six years from the start of your GDL to complete the Graduate LLB programme.

Once you have completed the GDL, you will need to complete an additional 60 credits to be awarded the Graduate LLB.

The following credits are predominantly studied online, with some optional face-to-face support available at our London Waterloo centre during the summer:

  • Intellectual Property Law 30 credits
  • Research Module 30 credits
  • Banking Law 15 Credits
  • Law of Financial Crime 15 Credits
  • Law of International Trade and Commerce 15 Credits
  • Property Tax 15 Credits
  • Independent Experience Project 15 Credits
  • Legal Ethics 15 credits
  • International Finance Law Module 15 Credits

Note: as the Graduate LLB is not a full-time programme, students will not be able to apply for a Tier 4 visa. Applicants can apply for a student visitor visa or can complete this programme online from their home country.


Upon completion you may join the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC).

Entry requirements

The Graduate LLB programme is available to current BPP students and graduates of the GDL. You must complete the Graduate LLB modules within six years of starting the GDL programme.

Paying for your programme

Students registering for the Graduate LLB programme after 01 January 2014

There will be no fees for any student registering on the Graduate LLB from 01 January 2014 onwards.

Materials supplied online. Core hard copy texts will be provided for student collection from Holborn Library.

Students already registered for the Graduate LLB programme

Any student who has registered on the programme before Jan 01 2014 is still required to pay any outstanding fees.
