LLB (Hons) [GDL Conversion]
With BPP, you can convert your Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) to an LLB by completing extra modules worth 60 credits. Undertaking the LLB (Hons) [GDL Conversion] will give you the opportunity to gain knowledge in specialist subjects which will set you apart from GDL students nationally.
This conversion to LLB (Hons) [GDL Conversion] programme is exclusively open to BPP GDL students and alumni who commenced their GDL studies within the last six years. The programme has been designed in consultation with big city firms who advised on the skills and knowledge they are looking for when recruiting. If you have any queries regarding your eligibility for the course, please email the BPP Admissions Team at admissions@bpp.com
Modules
Once you have completed the GDL, you will also need to complete an additional 60 credits to be awarded the LLB.
The following credits are predominantly studied online, with optional face-to-face support available at our London centre during the summer:
- Principles of Company Law (30 credits)
- Intellectual Property Law (30 credits)
- Legal Research and Analysis (30 credits)
In addition, in 2012 we are also offering summer school modules at our London centre in association with the US Law School William Mitchell. These include:
- International Business Transactions (15 credits)
- Comparative Criminal Law and Procedure (15 credits)
- Comparative Dispute Resolution (15 credits)
A maximum of two Comparative Law options may be studied – these options must be selected from different sessions. Finally, students may also choose to undertake an extra credit project (15 credits), in conjunction with one of the summer school options.
Modules are assessed through a mixture of coursework and computer-based tests, as well as an oral examination for the Research Module. There are three sittings per year for the 30 credit modules.
Stage 3
The primary aim of Extra Credit Project is to develop your ability to work autonomously, conducting research and/or exhibiting other skills at a level appropriate for this stage of legal educational development. You will develop and submit a proposal arising out of a taught module (core or elective) or other legal areas that you may be involved in (e.g. pro bono work and mooting), then (once approved) undertake the extra credit project, followed by submission of both evidence of your substantive work and a reflective learning report on that work.
If you're in employment when you take your law degree, you can use this option to make your studies specifically relevant to your job.
Please note that an Extra Credit Project may be undertaken at any stage of the LLB (Hons) (Business Law), provided that it is pitched at the appropriate level.
This module is part of LLB Stage 3.
