Qualification
BIFM is the British Institute of Facilities Management. It
offers a professional qualification for Facilities Managers (FMs).
The examinations are divided into two parts.
The BIFM Part 1 examinations are intended for those who are
relatively new to facilities management and need to develop their
formal knowledge of the subject. This level reflects the ability of
a junior FM with some supervisory and wider facilities management
responsibilities. The Part 1 examinations are approximately of HND
standard.
Part 2 examinations are intended for more experienced managers
who wish to consolidate and expand their knowledge base. This level
reflects the ability of a senior FM with overall facilities and
general management responsibility. The Part 2 examinations are
approximately of (first) degree standard. It is implied within the
overall structure and content of the Part 2 examination syllabus
that the student has attained the appropriate standard at Part
1.
Successful completion of Parts 1 and 2 of the BIFM examination
will satisfy the knowledge component of the
professional qualification.
Examinations are held twice yearly and results published to
candidates after moderation of marks at a formal Examination Board.
The BIFM examinations comprise a balance of specialist facilities
management subjects and general management modules. They are
intended to provide the student with a thorough grounding in both
facilities and general management theories and practice.
