Suitable for: Introduction to the main
financial markets and the instruments that operate within
them
Description: This book provides an excellent
introduction to the mathematical issues underlying investment and
finance. It is assumed that you will already possess a basic
understanding of mathematics, although it is appreciated that this
may be a little rusty and so we will reintroduce you to the basic
mathematical issues that you will need to rely on when developing
the investment and finance ideas that form the core of this
book.
All the techniques discussed are fully illustrated and performed
manually. Although we recognised that modern calculators and
spreadsheet programmes can undertake many of the mechanical
processes for more efficiently, we also recognise that blindly
punching numbers into a calculator or spreadsheet without
understanding the ideas behind the maths is a recipe for
misinterpretation, misunderstanding and mistakes. To minimise this
possibility, the objective within each section is to explain the
ideas being introduced and used and has been written as generally
as possible so is independent to whatever support (calculator or
spreadsheet) that you may be using.
