Nicole Edgington, (Sales & Marketing Director)

Welcome to the first edition of BPP Learning Media’s quarterly email bulletin.  My part is to tell you all about what goes on in the Sales and Marketing department, who it involves and what we all get up to.  In its simplest terms, whether it’s from the offices in Shepherds Bush and Livingston or out and about, we deal with customers and potential customers in the UK and all over the world.

Our job is to maximise the revenue that can be made out of all of the intellectual property that BPP owns by marketing and selling it to educational institutions, private training providers, the book trade and corporate sectors and individuals in the UK and all over the world.  The creation of Learning Media has allowed us much greater ability to focus on the needs of those markets and to target our advertising much more effectively in order to increase the revenue, market share and brand recognition of BPP Learning Media.

The BPP Learning Media portfolio incorporates study materials for accountancy Business, HR, Marketing, Financial Services and support for small businesses.  These come in the form of paper-based and e-learning products.  The main market at present is educational institutions in the UK and overseas and the book trade, but with a rapidly increasing product range, we are entering new markets, as well as having more product to sell into existing markets.

The Learning Media Sales & Marketing team comprises me (Sales & Marketing Director), Carole Fish and Emily Mander (Sales Managers), Steve Howe (Account Manager), Karen King (Marketing Manager), Caroline Macfie (Managing Director, Livingston) and Edmund Hewson (Managing Director).

Carole, Emily and I visit customers and potential customers in the UK and overseas to sell and cross-sell our products, and Karen manages the production of our marketing materials from advertising, to brochures, to branded merchandise for promotions. As the product range increases, we expect to be adding more people to this team to widen our reach to new customers as well as making sure that we are selling as much as we can to existing customers.

Emily is a brand new recruit to Learning Media with a background in educational publishing sales, including Reed Elsevier and US-based Scholastica.

Carole has been working as a Sales Manager for the company for 5 years now, having joined EQL International which is now integrated in BPP Learning Media. Carole concentrates on the UK educational sector and has had notable successes recently with South Bank Univeristy, the Open University, London School of Economics and Bradford University and is looking just about to attend the 30th Congress of the European Accountancy Association in Lisbon later this week.  I have just returned from a tour of ACCA Student and Teacher conferences in Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Zambia and South Africa) where our progress on the ACCA new syllabus will lead to plenty of sales in the second half! We are also in the process of signing new representation deals in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Karen’s focus is to manage the production of promotional materials such as advertisements, brochures and corporate merchandise, which involves drawing on her years of marketing experience to ensure that we are accurately targeting our marketing to the different BPP Learning Media customer groups.

Steve’s role is to ensure that all of our customers are receiving excellent service and information bulletins, as well as being responsible for getting as many Learning Media products as possible into bookshops to increase our circle of distribution, and managing our the supply of materials to customers who print LM materials in other countries.

We are also pleased to add Lana Doyle to the team, as the head of the new BPP Learning Media customer service team.  This is a particularly welcome development, Lana heads a team of 7 customer service agents who are dedicated to the Learning Media customer base, and this concentration allows us to offer excellence as standard to our customer base.

So in summary, we are a rapidly expanding group, with a rapidly expanding product portfolio…and naturally, all of this will be leading to rapidly increasing revenue.
