This Apprenticeship is designed to meet the skill needs of employers of all sizes and all sectors whether private, public or not-for-profit.
It is designed to up-skill the workforce to prepare staff for future team leading and or management roles.
Who is it for?
- Intermediate Apprentices will work in roles such as team leaders or supervisors.
- Advanced Apprentices will work in roles such as section, assistant and trainee managers.
- Higher Apprenticeships are for those in roles such as managers, senior managers and heads of department.
Intermediate Apprenticeship in Team Leading – Level 2

This Apprenticeship is suitable for those who hold job titles such as:
- Team Leader
- Section Leader
- Floor Manager
- Trainee Supervisor
- Team Co-ordinator
This apprenticeship is suitable if your job role includes:
- Monitoring work and giving feedback
- Briefing teams
- Supporting team members and resolving problems
- Project management
- Delivering and improving customer service
Learners on this Apprenticeship need to complete the following Framework:
- Competence Qualification: Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Team Leading
- Knowledge Qualification: Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading
- Key Skills in Application of Number Level 1*
- Key Skills in Communication Level 1*
- Key Skills in ICT Level 1*
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Workbook
*Learners may be exempt Key Skills if they hold a recent relevant GCSE or equivalent.
Progression & Career Development
- Advanced Apprenticeship in Management – Level 3
Other Advanced Apprenticeships such as Customer Service or Business & Administration
With further training, Intermediate Apprentices may be able to progress to roles such as:
- First line managers
- Section managers
- Assistant managers
- Trainee managers and senior supervisors
Advanced Apprenticeship in Management – Level 3
Entry RequirementsThere are no mandatory entry requirements for this framework however it is expected that Advanced Apprentices will have some prior experience in a managerial or team leader role.
This Apprenticeship is suitable for those who hold job titles such as:
- Section Manager
- First Line Manager
- Assistant Manager
- Trainee Manager
- Planning, allocating and monitoring the work of a team
- Supporting team members
- Managing conflict
- Resolving problems
- Project management
- Agreeing budgets

Progression & Career Development
For those wishing to continue their skills and qualifications, opportunities exist to progress to higher level professional qualifications such as:
- The Higher Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management
- Further or higher education to undertake management, business or other qualifications
- A range of management and other professional qualifications at level 4 or above
- Middle or senior managers
- Department manager
- Head of department, or a wide range of managerial roles within business.
Higher Apprenticeship in Leadership & Management – Level 5
Entry RequirementsThere are no mandatory entry requirements for this framework however it is expected that Higher Apprentices will have significant experience of working at a middle management level to ensure they have the suitable foundations on which to build their knowledge and skills.
This Apprenticeship is suitable for those who hold job titles such as:
- Manager
- Senior Manager
- Head of Department
This apprenticeship is suitable if your job role includes:
- Setting and supporting organisational objectives
- Informing strategic decision making
- Managing budgets
- Planning and implementing change
- Leading teams

Progression & Career Development
For those wishing to continue their skills and qualifications, opportunities exist to progress to higher level professional qualifications such as:
- A range of management and other professional qualifications at level 6 or above
- Higher Education to undertake management, business or other qualifications
- Possible membership of professional bodies, including the Chartered Management Institute or the Institute of Leadership and Management
- Progression routes from level 5 lead to career progression to roles such as senior managers or directors and, in time, Chief Executive positions
