BPP students have won all three of PQ magazines main awards
for accountancy students – winning part-qualified, newly-qualified
and distant learning student of the year! Abby-Lee Widger (London), Danny Taylor (Sheffield) and Sarah Harris (Ireland) were honoured at the 2010
PQ Magazine Awards, hosted at Quaglino’s of Piccadilly on Tuesday
23rd February.
Part Qualified Student of the Year –
won by Abby-Lee Widger.
Abby-Lee has continually gone the extra mile
to pass her ACCA exams. Despite looking after four young children
and working for four different charities, she has always found time
to study – reading her BPP flip books in the queue at Tesco’s, and
even in the school hall waiting for Harvest Assembly!
Abby-Lee explains how she came to start the
ACCA qualification:
“The accountant I worked for tried to get me
to sit exams for the sixteen years I worked for her. When I was
looking for work in 2007, no-one would take me on as a book-keeper
as I was far too experienced. But no-one would take me on in a
senior role as I had no qualification. I should have listened to my
boss.”
Newly Qualified Student of the Year –
won by Danny Taylor.
Apart from achieving exam success as a home
study student, Danny also manages to take part in numerous
activities outside of work and study. From being a Treasurer for
his local football league to raising funds for the Sheffield
Children’s Hospital, Danny understands the importance of having
well rounded experience. He said:
“I chose CIMA as I felt it would give me a
more thorough understanding of the business and make me more than
just a financial accountant. I particularly found BPP’s online
resources superb as they really complemented the textbooks and
aided my understanding of the course.”
Distant Learning Student of the Year –
won by Sarah Harris.
From day one, Sarah has studied for her ACCA
exams using only BPP’s home study materials – and obtained
first-time passes in every single one of her exams. She said:
“I chose ACCA because of its global presence,
its values and the flexibility it offered me. My strategy was to
take one exam per sitting. Working towards the ACCA qualification
has opened up many doors for me, whilst increasing my
self-confidence and belief.”
Martin Taylor, Deputy Managing
Director at BPP Professional
Education commented:
“We are very proud of our students’
achievements and dedication. Whether it’s classroom or distance
learning tuition, these students have made fantastic achievements
and illustrated the range of methods you can study towards these
qualifications. We are naturally delighted to have supported all
three award-winning accountancy students through their
studies.”
