Meet our people

BPP staff are a diverse and highly skilled group of people. Here, three of our staff members explain what makes working at BPP so rewarding:

Davinia McGann

Accountancy Tutor, joined BPP in 2008

Many of my accountancy colleagues had studied at BPP Business School. They spoke extremely highly of it and, right from the interview, I instantly liked the 'vibe'.

I started my career as an auditor but always had a yearning to teach, especially after getting involved in graduate training. The BPP Professional Qualifications Faculty was such a welcoming place with everyone genuinely interested in helping each other – preparing for courses, offering advice, lending files and materials.

It's been amazing to fulfill my dream of teaching in a classroom and it really is the best job in the world – especially the messages of thanks from students when they pass or land a great job.

But BPP is full of opportunities beyond teaching and I've been encouraged to try many different things – like developing our Online Classroom courses and supporting students out of class.

Consequently my career has progressed quickly. I'm now faculty manager – which means looking after nine other tutors, ensuring they have all the support they need to deliver great teaching and, of course, making sure their careers are progressing well.

Emily Durston

Lecturer in Land Law, joined BPP in 2008

Prior to BPP I was a practising barrister. I was looking for a change of pace and a more relaxing work environment, yet with plenty of potential to develop a stimulating career.

BPP Law School has far exceeded my expectations. It's an incredibly calm and supportive place to work, and as well as lecturing I've been able to take on all sorts of extra roles. I'm a Careers Officer, Deputy GDL Programme Leader and Manager of the law conversion course – so I'm heavily involved in many areas of student support, classroom and online teaching.

I'm also the GDL Skills Coordinator, putting together industry leading courses that give students vital experience for life in practice.

Because BPP really understand professional development, I've had training and support at every stage – my supervisor takes a big interest in my career and proactively puts me forward. One of the great perks of BPP is being able to enrol in their own courses, so I've already done Management Skills and Voice training (very useful as a lecturer).

All this means the job never gets stale and my daily routine varies enormously. I might be teaching one day, having one-to-ones with students the next. Or in summer, I can spend the whole day at home marking.

Will Smith

Head of Digital Marketing, joined BPP in 2010

Since joining BPP it's been a whirlwind experience of new ideas, new opportunities and almost limitless potential to develop both my career and my team's. There's also been great friendship and support from day one.

Digital marketing is such an evolving, exhilarating industry to be in. And with all the changes in the education sector, I was very excited to head the department at one of the UK's most progressively minded universities.

My team and I are responsible for all of BPP's digital output, which includes a new website, social media, CRM, email marketing, display advertising, pay-per-click and SEO.

Across the board rules and policies are being made by the day, but we have BPP's full backing to innovate, be proactive and try fresh ideas.

With specialists from so many different backgrounds, from business to marketing and education, it's a highly stimulating work environment with all sorts of ideas coming together.

Needless to say, we work extremely hard and expectations are high. But my department is growing rapidly and I'm given all the support I need to keep the team happy and productive.

The whole ethos of the organisation is built around career development – so as managers we're very conscious of taking regular feedback, recommending training and constantly encouraging people to maximise their potential.

What's more, BPP recently launched their Leadership and Management Development Programme. So from performance management, to operational matters and statutory responsibilities, we're extensively trained to improve our leadership and management skills.
