We are pleased to announce we have been awarded funding to offer AAT Accountancy and AAT Payroll Administration Apprenticeships at all levels.

Our next intake for AAT Apprenticeship courses is March 2010.

Payroll Administration and Accountancy Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are vocational qualifications that are related to tasks carried out in the workplace. A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) mainly involves producing work-based evidence to create an accounting portfolio. Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience.


Our Payroll Administration course is delivered via distance learning, the AAT Accountancy courses are classroom based and can be taken at any of our centres below.

Eligibility Criteria
In order to qualify for funding, you must fulfil certain criteria. The main criteria are you must:

  • Be a UK resident living in England for the past 3 years/EU citizen or have the right to work in the UK/EU
  • Not be a graduate, or currently in full time education
  • Be 16 years old or over
  • Be working in a full time accountancy or payroll related role, and work more that 16 hours per week

It is important for the learner and employer to understand what to expect before they start the Apprenticeship. Further requirements of the scheme include:

  • An initial induction at the work place with the learner and training manager is required before the learner commences their studies
  • A contract to be signed by the learner, employer and BPP to confirm the learner and employer are aware of what is required of them and they agree to fulfil all the requirements
  • Regular review meetings every 2-3 months at the work place with the learner, tutor and training manager. In these meetings the learner’s progress will be discussed and additional support given if required
  • The learner must attend BPP classroom courses for the whole stage (accountancy qualification only)
  • The learner must complete an initial assessment to determine at which level to begin at
  • The learner must start and complete the relevant level of AAT before moving onto the next level
  • The learner must complete an Employees Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Workbook and Be Safe Workbook
  • The learner may have to complete Key Skills, which consist of 2 exams and 2 portfolios. (Key skills do not need to be completed if the learner has achieved a grade A-C in Mathematics and English at GCSE or A Level in the last 5 years)

What are Key Skills?
Communication and Application of Numbers Key Skills are essential skills that are needed in both employment and life. The process for this, if required is:

  • Completion of initial assessment to determine level
  • Completion of diagnostic test to determine specific weaker areas
  • Learning resources issued for additional practice
  • Learner to complete online exams at BPP Centre
  • Completion of portfolios

Priority will be given to those students who do not already have a NVQ or equivalent at the level they are applying for. Applications are especially encouraged from students aged 16-18.
